Yeasts are single-celled eukaryotes, that belong to the fungal kingdom. They can create pseudohyphae or fake hyphae, which are threads of linked budding cells. Yeast diameters vary widely based on species and habitat, but they are generally 3–4 m in diameter. The majority of them reproduce asexually by mitosis, and many of them do so through the asymmetric division process known as budding. Saccharomyces cerevisiae, a yeast species, is an essential model organism in current cell biology research and one of the most thoroughly researched eukaryotic microorganisms. Prepared yeast budding slides are a crucial element in understanding the evolution of multicellular charecteristics from unicellular charecteristics.
