A glass slide is a thin flat pane of glass that is approximately 75 by 26 mm (3 by 1 inch) in size and around 1 mm thick and is used to hold items for inspection under a microscope. Typically, the item is mounted (attached) on the slide before being placed into the microscope for viewing. This configuration enables numerous slide-mounted items to be swiftly inserted and withdrawn from the microscope, labelled, transported, and kept in appropriate slide cases or folders, and so on.
