Ramakrishna Mission Multipurpose School, Kamarpukur, is a higher secondary school under the Ramakrishna Math and Mission, situated in Kamarpukur village, Hooghly. They entrusted us to develop a chemistry lab for the school. The school, which has been focusing on both academic excellence and character development. The school was built in 1962 and has supported rural and underprivileged children in achieving their dreams by offering numerous scholarships to help them afford their fees.
For institutions that priorities holistic education, Labkafe has partnered with them to design and deliver chemistry lab storage cabinet facilities. They wanted to incorporate infrastructure features such as safety, durability, functionality, and curriculum alignment, supporting practical learning while upholding their institution’s legacy.
Clients’ Requirement for Chemistry Lab
Our Client, Hemant Maharaj, required a chemistry lab for Ramkrishna Mission Multipurpose School. His primary requirement was the development of a fully functional Chemistry laboratory that would enhance both learning and usability. That includes:
- A full-fledged chemistry lab’s storage cabinet setup focused on enhancing practical learning and ease of use.
- A custom-designed chemistry laboratory organiser that turns out to be a periodic table displayed on the body of the chemistry lab’s storage cabinet. Also, ensuring visuals and interactive learning for the students.
- Complete concealment of the gas pipelines to ensure the safety and cleanliness of the lab.
- Concealed electric and plumbing services to create a clutter-free and clean workspace.
- Customize the laboratory layout to support the flow of work and be efficient for both teachers and students.
- Prioritizing handling the chemicals safely by choosing appropriate furniture design and material.
- A clean & structure laboratory aligning with the institution’s standards.
The Challenges
The major challenges that emerged during the project are primarily related to the furniture utilities. The Ramkrishna Mission is a renowned spiritual and educational organization who are very specific about its students. Furthermore, they wanted a wet laboratory that could immerse them in the practical world. Therefore, the difficulties are mentioned below:
Strategic Layout of a Chemistry Lab’s Storage Cabinet
There was a special request from the client, as he suggested having a large-sized periodic table on the storage cabinet. The chemistry laboratory required a high-quality layout to optimise the storage of the lab. Our team has to come up with a plan so that the students can use the efficient space of the lab.
Infrastructure and Utility Management
The laboratory requires a complete approach for the installation of the lab essentials. The challenge is to hide the lab safe and tidy; gas, water, and power lines are tucked into hidden channels.
Layout and Safety for the RKMS Students
Need a popper balance for proper ventilation, compliance with laboratory safety norms, and student safety while maintaining a clean, visually appealing design within limited space constraints.

The collaboration with such a reputed institution is a privilege for us. We also had a great work experience due to their good behaviors and hospitality. Therefore, Labkafe addresses all the above challenges, and came up with a full-fledged plan of installing a chemistry lab’s storage cabinet and setup. Our team had come up with a customized solution.
Optimized storage for the chemistry lab
Labkafe’s team had come up with a customized layout to maximize the capacity of the lab. We had incorporated 5 3ft storage cabinets. On the surface of the body, we had printed the whole periodic table without compromising the efficiency of the storage under the standard of the institution. For this request, as Labkafe never delivered such a project, it was the first time we came up with the idea of creating something new. The outcomes satisfied the client and had a positive review of the safety cabinet.
Concealing Pipelines and electricals
Before installation, our team observed that the room was built completely. The floor was incomplete and not upto the mark to install a lab. Therefore, we caught up on an opportunity to conceal the overall gas pipelines and electrical wires while constructing the floor. This modular approach removed visual overload while keeping service accessible for easy maintenance.
Safety and Ergonomic design for chemistry lab
